Postby jamiev » Thu Apr 04, 2013 2:51 pm

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that we have just released Storyboard 3.1. What is new in SB 3.1 you ask ...

Crank Storyboard Suite v3.1

Storyboard Designer

The release of Storyboard Suite 3.1 includes a significant collection of minor UI enhancements designed to improve the efficiency of developers who use Designer to build applications. A number of enhancements were also made to the memory management within the design environment, specifically with regards to how much memory 3D models would consume.

Major Changes

Simulator Quick Launch .. Anywhere

The simulator launch button on the main toolbar has been adjusted to allow a much wider field of use, specifically while editing Lua script files.

Z-Order Control Selection

In large layered applications it is frequently the case that one control overlaps and hides another. Underlying controls can now be selected from within the visual editor by using keyboard and pressing ALT while selecting elements.

Additional Default Fonts

The Roboto family of fonts used on Android devices has been included into the default distribution of Storyboard Designer. These fonts are free for commercial use and deployment and have a nice clean typeface. Our graphic designer Dan approves!

Known Issues

The automatic creation of translation CSV files will not properly add in variables referenced by table cells. While the variables are not automatically collected, they can be manually added to the CSV file.

Runtime Updates

Runtime Updates for OSX have been removed due to a bug which can render the Storyboard Installation corrupt following a failed upgrade. OSX users will now be prompted during an update to manually download the Runtime installer from Crank Software when they become available.

Storyboard Embedded Engine

Storyboard Engine continues to move forward with the goal of providing our customers with a broad list of supported targets.

Major Changes

Lua 5.2 bit32 Module Support

The Lua engine remains the 5.1 base engine, but it has been enhanced with the bit32 bitwise operations from the Lua 5.2 release.
For more details on the supported API, refer to

Audio Android/iOS Support

The audio plugin with WAV file support has been added to the Android and iOS plugin distributions.

Android Error Log Reporting

Historically errors were logged to the Android logging system using different module names. As of 3.1 all error reporting is done using the sbengine module label.

Floating Point Rotation Angles

All rotation angles are now specified as floating point values. Historical applications that used integer values for the rotation angle are still supported and will be seamlessly converted to floating point.
