Running Storyboard on a 64 bit Linux machine

Postby rdowdall » Thu Apr 16, 2015 1:18 pm

Sometimes it can be a problem running Storyboard Designer on a 64 bit Linux distribution. This is because Storyboard Designer uses a 32 bit Java VM. Therefore you will need to have the 32 bit libraries installed required by Designer installed for your Linux distribution. On a Ubuntu distribution this is how you install the required 32 bit libraries:

sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-0:i386 libXtst6:i386 libcanberra-gtk-module:i386 gtk2-engines-murrine:i386 libdbus-glib-1-2:i386

For a different distribution, you will need to figure out how to install the 32 bit versions of the above libraries through the distributions package management system.

Thanks,
Rodney

Is there a 64bit version of sbengine? I have not been able to run sbengine.

Hi,

Installed Storyboard to a 64-bit Ubuntu today. The 32 bit libraries are also installed as instructed, but still getting error message (unable to load a renderer) when running the storyboard example. Please advise. Thank you!

Hello Ray

Unfortunately we can't see the error messages because the image has been truncated. Could you please try running Storyboard Engine again, but this time please run if with 5 v's ( so add the command line option -vvvvv ) and then copy and paste the output from the Storyboard Designer view in to the forum post?

Thanks,
Rodney

Hello Ray

The image is still truncating some of the output. I can understand that it may be difficult to copy and paste from the VMWare session to your Windows session. Please copy the text that is in the console to a file and then transfer that file to your windows box. Please post the output of that file in the forum. Add 2 more v's to the command line as well to bring the total to 7.

Also, can you please do a find in /usr for the GL libraries. To do this please execute the following on your Linux system:

cd /usr
find -name libGL*

Sometimes when installing the 32 bit libraries for GL on a 64 bit Ubuntu machine, the 32 bit version of libGL.so is not linked to libGL.so.1 so our OpenGL renderer will be unable to find it.

Thanks,
Rodney

Rodney,

This is for GL libraries:

And the error messages are in the "error_7v.txt". Thank you.

Hello Ray

So judging from this line in the text file you provided:

DIAG [0.002]:Unable to load plugin: /home/wu52/Crank_Software/Storyboard_Engine/4.2.201602050429/linux-x86-opengles_2.0-x11-obj/plugins/librender-plugin-opengles_2.0.so Error: libGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

The renderer can't be loaded because it can't find the 32 bit version of libGL.so.1. Also the find command output failed to show a libGL.so.1 file in the 32 bit library directory under usr. You may need to reinstall the 32bit version of your opengl libraries, as I don't know if they were installed properly the first time.

Thanks,
Rodney

Rodney,

After
Code: Select all
 sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-glx:i386
, I am able to run storyboard designer. Thanks a lot!

Hi,

I'm trying to install Storyboard Designer in Ubuntu 18.04. I can get it install, but it will segfault when I try to run it.

Here's what I did to prepare the the 32-bit libraries...

sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-0:i386 libcanberra-gtk-module:i386 gtk2-engines-murrine:i386 libdbus-glib-1-2:i386

Note: libXtst6:i386 was recommended in a previous post, but was not found in Ubuntu 18.04

sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-glx:i386

Here is the attempt to lauch...
michaelholmes@ubuntu:~$ ~/Crank_Software/Storyboard_Designer/storyboard/launch-storyboard.sh
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

What do I need to do or install to get SB to run on Ubuntu 18.04?

Thanks,
Mike
