Right after you start sbengine with those -vvvv's, it should tell you all of the plugins that it is attempting to load. It will tell you if it can't load any of them. Do you see anything where it is failing to load the plugins? For example, on my Linux box here is what I see:

/home/rdowdall/Documents/workspace/sbengine/linux-x86_64-sdl-obj/bin/sbengine -vvvv /home/rdowdall/Documents/crank/samples/release/button-example/button.gapp

Do you see any errors during this phase?

Dave, I notice in your plugin_path you have "/mounted_volume" instead of "/mounted volume" like in your .gapp file path

Is this a forum typo?

No, none. The first error occurs when I attempt to interact with the app.

It was a real problem but I fixed it and tested it again. No better results.

Do you mind attaching the beginning output where it loads the plugins?

Is the gra / gre difference important?

Most plugins are gre, such as gre.init, gre.screenshow.post, etc. but the one it always trips over is gra as in gra.screen.path .

Would love to. Too bad our stipped down CE has no functionality (such as Notepad) for doing so.

Let me see if I remember my DOS pipe commands... :cracks knuckles: (I feel like Scotty in Star Trek IV "Hello Computerrrrr??")

Thanks Dave, this is quite a puzzle! Your sbengine is definitely not trying to load any plugins, and the plugin_path dir looks good and should be getting parsed properly by the arg parser. It seems like it is having a problem opening the plugin dir for some reason.

As a temporary workaround, you can remove the plugin_path option and place any needed plugins in the same directory as your gapp file. It's ugly, but that's where the default is if you don't specify a directory.

Yes, this did the trick.

So, it's something to do with the plugins path. But it's not a typo or invisible character; I Ctrl-V'd the plugins path onto a DOS DIR command and the path resolved just fine.

I can think of only two unknowns left:
- the plugins is choking on a path with invalid characters: camel-case characters, spaces or the wrong kind of slash.
- there is a problem with -omodel_mgr. I tried eliminating this while leabing the plugins_path= but that didn't work either.
